On January 10th, the 2019 National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held. The team of Chinese mentors Xiang Jun, Hu Song and Wang Yi completed the “ Whole-process collaborative control technology and engineering application of ultra-low sulfur and nitrogen pollutant emission from coal-fired power plants” and won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award.

Brief introduction of the award-winning project:

Facing the major needs of the country’s energy and environmental fields, the team has carried out nearly 20 years of joint research on R&D, and invented four key technologies for achieving ultra-low sulfur and nitrogen pollutant emissions:

1. low-nitrogen combustion technology and equipment for boilers that control the generation of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the boiler.

2. Innovated the wide temperature zone adaptive flue gas denitration technology and equipment that controls NOx emissions after the boiler.

3. high-efficiency and low-cost single tower four-zone dual-cycle SO2 control Technology and equipment.

4. coal-fired power plant various pollutants ultra-low emission collaborative control system.

The above technologies have been applied to more than 1000 boilers in more than 300 power plants, achieving ultra-low emissions of sulfur and nitrogen pollutants from the coal-fired power plants.
