Recently, a paper entitled Localizing concentrated electrolyte in pore geometry for highly reversible aqueous Zn metal batteries, was published in one of the top academic journals, the Journal of Chemical Engineering (link: https://authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S1385-8947(21)01228-6). The first author of this paper is Ms. XIAO Run, a graduate student of ICARE, while the corresponding author is her Chinese supervisor Professor SUN Yongming of Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics. This research united elite teams of universities at home and abroad including Cambridge University and Tsinghua University..

The research mainly focused on the rational design and optimization of the interface structure in the commonly used metal zinc anode, thereby effectively improving the electrochemical performance of the water-based zinc metal battery.

In recent years, rechargeable water-based zinc metal batteries (RAZMBs) have shown great development prospects in the field of large-scale renewable energy storage because of the rich zinc resources, low cost, and high safety. However, due to the poor electrochemical reversibility and corrosion of zinc, its practical application is hindered. In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, this paper rationalized the design and optimization of the interface structure of the commonly used metal zinc anode, which effectively improved the electrochemical performance of the water-based zinc metal battery.

Sun Yongming, Chinese supervisor of ICARE. Doctor, professor and doctoral supervisor of Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He has been selected into the National High-level Young Talents Program, named to MIT Technology Review’s 35 Innovators Under 35 (China ). Professor Sun Yongming has long been engaged in scientific research in new energy storage materials and technologies (lithium-ion batteries, lithium metal batteries, zinc metal batteries, etc.).

Professor Sun Yongming has made a series of outstanding achievements in the fields of new energy storage materials and technology, and has published more than 60 papers in well-known international journals such as Science, Nature Energy, Nature Nanotechnology and etc. In addition, more than 10 projects have been authorized/applied for domestic and foreign patents. According to google scholar, the published papers has been cited more than 12,000 times, and the h-index is 49.

Xiao Run, a master student of ICARE. She has won outstanding graduate student cadre; outstanding Communist Youth League cadre and Zhixing Scholarship.

She has taken various responsibilities during her studies and had the honor to obtain an internship offer from the headquarters of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in Vienna, Austria.

Her main research field is water-based zinc metal batteries. At present, she has published 3 SCI papers, of which one as the first author.
