French environmental engineer gave a talk on Wuhan Greenhouse Gases Emissions Assessment

As one of the seven pilot provinces and cities for carbon trading, Hubei province opened the carbon trading market officially on April 2rd. With the imminent launching of the carbon emission trading system, Green House Gases (GHG) emission assessment is becoming more and more important. Therefore, Ms. Julia Feste, French environmental engineer in charge of the Bilan Carbon adaptation project in Wuhan, from Internat Energy Solutions Co., was invited to talk about this in our institute.

The conference was entitled Chinese-French environmental cooperation project-Wuhan GHG Emissions Assessment, which brought to the audience a new concept of localization of carbon emission factors. Ms. Feste presented the assessment tools ("Bilan Carbone" method) and research methods of carbon emission factors in the project that were successfully used in Bordeaux, twin city of Wuhan since 1998.

Ms. Feste also mentioned Baibuting Neighborhood and Jianguan Tower in Wuhan, the two pilots of Chinese-French environmental cooperation project, and gave a detailed account of Jianguan Tower project. She explained the numerous difficulties met to improve the calculation of the emission factor in taking into account local parameters, adequate actors and proper boundaries as well as data sources. In the end, she expressed the hope to have other opportunity to share with the audience the results of the work presently in progress.​
