The First Annual Conference of ICARE was held successfully

On March 28, the First Annual Conference of China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy (ICARE) was held in lecture room 217, West fifth building. The theme of this conference was "clean energy, green and low carbon", initiated by the academic Preparatory Committee of ICARE and hosted by Graduate Union of ICARE.



 

Prof. LUO Xiaobing, the Chinese Dean of ICARE, Prof. Hu song, the Director of Research Center, Assoc. Prof. YU Jie and Assoc. Prof. HU Yue, Chinese tutors, Ms. LIU Yang, the Director of Education Center, Ms. LIANG Yuanyuan, Counselor of Student Affairs, Mr. Li Zhitian, the Assistant Director of Research Center, were invited to attend the opening ceremony of the conference. Nearly 100 graduate students from ICARE participated in the event.

 

At 9 a.m., the conference began. Prof. LUO Xiaobing delivered an opening speech for the annual conference. He expressed his expectation for the development of the Institute, encouraged students to actively participate in academic research and exchange. Prof. Michel FARINE and Prof. Alain THOREL also expressed their sincere congratulations on the opening of the First Annual Conference of the college through recorded video.

 

After the opening ceremony, Assoc.Prof. YU Jie delivered a special report entitled "Technology progress of solid waste classification, disposal and resource utilization". He shared his scientific research achievements from the perspective of how to recycle municipal solid waste, and encouraged ICARE students to actively participate in academic research. Later, Assoc. Prof. HU Yue delivered a special report entitled "Chasing light and electricity - solar cells". Assoc.Prof. HU Yue once studied in overseas universities for a long time. She shared her studying experience and her understanding of the field of solar cells, and encouraged students to find their favorite fields and keep enthusiasm. The two teachers' reports were enlightening, which aroused the students' strong interest. In the interactive session, the students expressed their own views around the themes of these two professors.

During the tea break, the audients visited the posters of the conference and discussed the academic problems in different fields of new energy.

After the short break, two ICARE alumni, Mr. TIAN Xiang and Mr. CHEN Fan, delivered reports entitled "Local conditions, multi-integration, accelerating the landing of comprehensive energy projects" and "Report on the development of clean energy along the One Belt and One Road by Shanghai Electric Power ” respectively. These two speeches have comprehensively reported two energy projects (industry and Park) from development to implementation as examples of the implementations of clean and new energy. Mr. TIAN Xiang described the importance of adjusting measures to local conditions, different clean energy input and integration of various energy technologies in promoting project implementation. Mr. CHEN Fan introduced the development process of 2 × 660MW coal fired power plant project in Hunutlu, which is the largest direct investment of Chinese enterprises in Turkey since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Turkey. It is a significant breakthrough for Chinese enterprises in the "One Belt and One Road" market.



 

At 2 p.m., three ICARE alumni, Dr. TANG Jian of École Polytechnique, Dr. PEI Long of Paris Sciences&Lettres, and Dr. XU Xinya of Northumbria University, conducted the Online Doctor Salon. Starting from their own experience, the three doctors introduced their overseas research experience and current research hotspots of clean energy. They encouraged students to actively participate in scientific research projects and to make benefits from the academic platforms of China and Europe to improve their academic level. After the doctor's salon, Prof. Hu Song introduced the CSC sponsored “ICARE, Mines-ParisTech and other international cooperation training project for innovative talents”. He encouraged ICAER students to take advantage of Double Master Programme training and actively apply for international collaboration project .

 

At the end of the conference, the postgraduates' special presentation was held in the meeting rooms 210 and 214. Their presentations are divided into six directions: solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, hydrogen & storage, energy efficiency and other new energies. Assoc.Prof. ZENG Kuo, Assoc.Prof. RONG Yaoguang, Assoc.Prof. HU Yue, Assoc.Prof. WEN Chang, Assoc.Prof. SHAN Feng, Dr. WU Peng and other Chinese tutors of ICARE are the judges the presentations. A total of 18 students entered the final stage of this academic annual conference. They made oral reports in English on their research topics and the content of their papers. They have communicated and discussed with the judges and professors present. The judges and professors made comments and suggestions on their papers, which promoted their understanding of research in various directions.

 

The conference aimed to further strengthen postgraduate education, enhanced the research ability of the students, built academic exchange platforms of different forms and levels for students, and created a strong academic atmosphere.
