COURSE TITLE: Geothermal energy I

Introduction to the Course/课程介绍:

This Course provides: 1) A detailed view on the magmatic and geothermal fluids (chemistry, liquid

/ gas ratio , salinity, hardness, sampling and analysys of geothermal fluids, etc.); 2) Applications of geochemistry of the geothermal fluids (e.g. geothermometers, isotopic geochemistry); 3) Urban pollution; 4) A general view on the different types of geothermal power plants and exchangers; 5) Design of High enthalpy Power plants; 5) Geothermal engineering; 6)Technical problems and environmental impacts of high enthalpy power plants; 7) Practice and final exam about the geochemistry of geothermal fluids, the developing of a high enthalpy geothermal field and design of a high enthalpy power plant.

Course Aims/课程目标: The aims of this Course are to:

·         Improve the knowledge of the geothermal fluids and of the different types of geothermal power plants and applications;

·         Increase skills in the design and development of medium and high enthalpy geothermal fields;

Learning Outcomes/学习结果

By the end of this Course students should have gained:

·         Knowledge and Understanding about the geochemical characterization of the geothermal fluids, about the geothermal engineering testings of the wells and about the high enthalpy power plants

·         Intellectual Skills: improvements of the background in the use of the geothermal resource and of geochemistry also in other fields (analyses and solutions of environmental impacts)

·         Professional Practice Skills in the analyses and classification of geothermal fluids, in solving problems of geothermal engineering and in design of high enthalpy power plants

·         Transferable Skills for the choice and design of geothermal power plants starting from the analysis of the geochemical and physical data of the wells and vents

COURSE TITLE: Geothermal energy II

Introduction to the Course:

This Course provides an introduction and technical applications in Middle and Low Enthalpy Geothermal Systems

Course Aims: The aims of this Course are to:

·         Refine the knowledge of the geothermoelectric plants (e.g. binary -type power plants)

·         Refine the UGS and EGS systems

·         Refine the knowledge of hydrogeology

·         Improve the knowledge of the technical-environmental problems of the geothermal uses

·         Improve the knowledge of the geothermal applications in the Low Enthalpy Systems (direct and indirect uses of geothermal heat);

·         Increase skills in the design and development of Low Enthalpy Systems (e.g. ground source heat pumps);

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this Course students should have gained:

·         Knowledge and Understanding: knowledge of the different Geothermal sources of any enthalpy and understanding of the different possibilities of their exploitation

·         Intellectual Skills: the Course improves the intellectual background of the Students with topics poorly known (e.g. geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, urban pollution, etc.)

·         Professional Practice Skills: the Students are able to design different geothermal applications and to avoid eventual problems of project management

·         Transferable Skills: The Student can transfer their knowledge and analytical methods of Geothermal also to different fields of the Renewable Natural Sources exploitation
