On October 24th, the grand opening ceremony of International Conference on Power Engineering-2013 (ICOPE-2013) was held in Wuhan. Over 300 participants in Power Engineering field from China, USA, Japan, European Union, Australia, Thailand, South Africa, Nigeria, United Arab Emirates, etc., gathered here to exchange views on world energy problems.

The ICOPE-2013 was organized and sponsored by the Chinese Society of Power Engineering (CSPE), co-organized and co-sponsored by the Japanese Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), with the great support of the School of Energy and Power Engineering (SEPE), China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy (ICARE) and State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion (SKLCC) from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) for local organization. Prof. LI Peigen, President of HUST and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Prof. CEN Kefa from Zhejiang University, member of the CAE, Mr. George Saxon, Chairman of Power Engineering Branch of ASME, Mr. Jun Inumaru, Chairman of Power Engineering Branch of JSME, and all members of CSPE participated in the ceremony.

Plenary Keynote Speeches were given by Prof. ZHENG Chuguang (SEPE) on “Research & Development of Oxyfuel Combustion in China", by Prof. Yasuo Koizumi (Shinshu University, Japon) on “Introduction of the Activity of the Research Committee for the Urgent Surveys of the East Japan Great-Earthquake and Proposals of Future Measures of the JSME", by Mr. George Saxon (Conco Systems, Inc., USA) on “Power Engineers Shape the Future”, by Prof. Didier Mayer (Ecole des Mines de Paris, France) on “Renewable Global Status with a Focus on R&D Roadmap for Wind Energy”, and by Prof. LI Chunzhu (Curtin University of Technology, Australia) on “Biomass Pyrolysis and Gasification for Green Base-Load Power Generation”.

During the 3-day conference, 176 Chinese papers and 56 from abroad were presented and discussed, focusing on fuel, combustion, regulated pollutants, steam generator, steam turbine, plant operation and maintenance, wind energy, solar energy, biomass energy, etc. Experts, scholars and entrepreneurs had full exchanges and share the research and achievements in each country. 16 medias, including People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency and China Science & Technology News etc. covered the conference and interviewed Prof. ZHENG Chuguang personally.
