On the afternoon of April 18, our university held an online seminar with the Chinese Mission to the EU. The seminar focused on strengthening educational exchanges and cooperation with Europe. Vice President, Prof. Chen Jianguo, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Mission to the EU, Mr. Che Weimin attended the meeting and made a speech. Representatives of the International Affairs Office and ICARE attended the seminar.
In his speech, Mr. Che Weimin briefly introduced the Mission to the EU, the main content of the Education and Culture Section, the general situation of China-Eu educational exchanges, as well as the EU's recent priorities in the fields of education, science, technology and culture.
Prof. Chen Jianguo first expressed his gratitude to the mission to the European Union for its long-term support for the internationalization of our university. He also briefly introduced the relevant situation of the visit he led to the partner universities in Europe not long ago. He further pointed out that Europe has always been the traditional center of international exchanges. Over the years, HUST has maintained extensive and in-depth cooperation with partner universities, including the University of Heidelberg, the RWTH Aachen University, the Université Paris-Saclay, the University of Leuven and so on, which produced a lot of practical achievements in personnel training and cooperative research. In the future, the University will continue to adhere to the philosophy of openness and inclusiveness, fully implement the Global Development Strategy 2030 of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and take the construction of Junshan International Campus as an opportunity to continuously enrich the forms of cooperation with Europe, deepen the connotation of cooperation, and open a new chapter of pragmatic exchanges and cooperation.
In the following special report session, Prof. Zhou Liping, Dean of the School of International Education, introduced the HUST’s education of European students from three aspects: enrollment, key measures and famous alumni. Prof. Luo Xiaobing, the Chinese Dean of ICARE, introduced the general situation of the Institute, the achievements and cooperation with Europe and the development plan. Ms Wei Tian, Manager of the Division for Student Exchange Affairs of the International Affairs Office, introduced HUST student exchange in EU universities and internships in the International Organizations, as well as the key measures taken by HUST to further strengthen relevant work.
Prof. Chen Jianguo said in his conclusion remark that HUST will continue to consolidate the existing cooperation with Europe, give full play to the mission and responsibility of "double first-class" universities, and serve the development needs of our country with stable and pragmatic exchanges.
