The song of youth is as gorgeous as a flower. In this sweet season full of hope and vitality, let's talk about the road of studying with sweet love added.
Mr. Liu Wei, ICARE Graduate Student from Class 2015, was awarded the EU scholarship to study in France during his second year of study. He received three master's degrees, including one from HUST and one from MINES Paris-PSL. After graduation, he continued his studies at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and is now working as a researcher at A*STAR, one of the top scientific institutes in Singapore, where he is the team leader and has published several papers in many influential international journals. Liao Huangyue, also ICARE Graduate Student Class of 2015, studied in France for one year during her second year of study and is still pursuing her Ph.D. at Nanyang Technological University.
During his initial postgraduate studies, Mr. Liu Wei admits that he did not adapt to the overly heavy curriculum and the English teaching mode at ICARE. The teachers came from different countries all over the world, and each country has a different English accent, which made it difficult to understand. Mr. Liu Wei wakes up every day at six o'clock, and while studying for the course, he does not forget to improve his English. He often helped the students around him, including Ms. Liao Huangyue, to answer questions and solve problems. The two of them help each other and encourage each other together.
During their second year of study, Mr. Liu Wei and Ms. Liao Huangyue were qualified to study in France at the same time. In a foreign country, it is inevitable to face various difficulties. Mr. Liu Wei said that the biggest difficulty comes from the prejudice and distrust of foreigners towards Chinese students, and it is always difficult to find teammates for things that need to do as a group. It could take a long time to integrate into a group. Mr. Liu Wei hopes to let more people know that Chinese students are no worse than students from any other country and that they can even do better.
During their stay in France, they studied together and also went to see the colorful world together. They traveled through all the countries in Europe, and on the way they also visited Professor George, the foreign tutor in charge of wind energy teaching at ICARE. During this year, the two published several influential papers and finally set themselves a goal for the future: to continue their studies in the scientific fields.
Looking back to his three years of postgraduate studies at HUST, Mr. Liu Wei and Ms. Liao Huangyue said that without the three years at ICARE, it would not have been possible for him to become who he is today. He also talked about how his European degree helped him when he applied for the job at A*STAR Research Institute, and how MINES Paris-PSL is internationally known and influential. When it comes to how he got his present achievement, he summarized three points: First, ICARE provides a high-development platform. He believes that because of HUST, he has been fortunate to have access to many opportunities and resources that are not available to his peers. Second, teachers of ICARE are very helpful, not only for studies but also for many other aspects of life. Third, the understanding and support of his friends. Mr. Liu Wei is very lucky to meet a group of like-minded friends, who can do things together and grow together.
Ms. Huangyue also expressed her wishes for ICARE, hoping ICARE will become better and better, hoping that all the students studying here will be successful, and also hoping that the students will have a good harvest of both career and personal life.
