Recently, ICARE successfully concluded its 2024 National Outstanding Undergraduate Academic Summer Camp, which attracted the enthusiastic participation of 33 elite students from across the country. Themed "A New Journey for Sino-Europe Cooperation, A New Era for Energy," the camp featured a carefully planned series of activities, including academic experiences, scholarly exchanges, and Sino-foreign cultural interactions. The aim was to create a high-level platform for young scholars nationwide to learn, communicate, and inspire innovative thinking.
On the afternoon of July 3, the summer camp officially commenced in Room S311 of the Clean Energy Building. Prof. Michel FARINE, the European Dean of ICARE, delivered a video message to the campers, highlighting the unique appeal of the institute's international education and the bright future of the new energy sector. Dr. Zou Mingqing, the Vice Dean, gave the opening speech, warmly welcoming the campers who had traveled from various parts of the country. He elaborated on the institute's educational achievements and characteristics, urging the campers to seize this opportunity, remain true to their academic ideals, pursue excellence in scientific research, and collaborate with their peers to contribute wisdom and strength to the "dual carbon" strategy. Professor Hu Song, speaking on behalf of the faculty, shared his hopes for the aspiring students in attendance. Mrs. Liu Yang, Director of the Academic Affairs Center, outlined the summer camp's schedule and emphasized the importance of safety, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable two-day experience for all.
Following the opening ceremony, the campers, guided by volunteers, toured the State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion and the University History Museum, gaining a deeper appreciation for the rich heritage and scientific prowess of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
On the morning of July 4, the Chinese faculty introduced their research groups, covering topics such as research focus, capabilities, mentor teams, and graduate training programs, providing the campers with a comprehensive understanding of ICARE’s research strengths. In the afternoon, after completing group interviews in English, the campers took part in an English written examination.
To further enrich the campers' experience, a series of special activities were thoughtfully organized. On the evening of July 3, the Sino-British Music Journey Evening was held in Conference Room N112, where participants from the National Summer Camp and the Oxford Summer Camp connected through music. From playful self-introductions and ice-breaking games to competitive English word chain challenges and vibrant singing and dancing performances, these activities deepened the bonds of friendship and understanding between the two groups, fostering a platform for self-expression and academic exchange in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere.
The successful organization of this National Outstanding Undergraduate Academic Summer Camp by ICARE has not only infused new energy into the field of new energy but also showcased the institute's exceptional achievements in cultivating international talent. Moving forward, ICARE will continue to embrace the philosophy of "Open Cooperation and Innovative Development," deepening international exchanges and cooperation, striving to cultivate more high-caliber talents with global perspectives and innovative capabilities, and collectively contributing to a brilliant new chapter in the era of energy transition.
