On the morning of August 1st, the closing ceremony of the HUST-Oxford Summer Camp took place in Room N309 of the Clean Energy Building. The event was attended by Liu Yang, Director of the Education Center at ICARE; Chinese supervisor Professor Chen Rong; Professor Yang Qing; Tan Yaling from the Education Center; and students from the University of Oxford. The ceremony was hosted by Li Weiran, a student from ICARE’s Class of 2023.
During the ceremony, participants reflected on their learning and cultural exchange experiences from the summer camp through a short video. Liu Yang commended the academic excellence of the Oxford students and the dedication of the ICARE volunteers. She congratulated the participants on completing all the summer camp activities and acknowledged their positive collaboration and diligent learning attitudes throughout the program. She also expressed her gratitude to the HUST leadership for their support of the summer camp project and extended heartfelt thanks to the teaching and volunteer teams for their hard work.
Following this, the Oxford students presented the academic progress they made under the guidance of their Chinese mentors during the summer camp.
After the students completed their presentations, the mentors provided insightful feedback on the reports. Yang Qing expressed her pleasure in seeing the students demonstrate outstanding research skills and learning abilities during the six-week camp, which led to fruitful results through their collaborative research with Chinese students. She fully recognized their efforts. Chen Rong noted that it was not easy for students from different countries to quickly adapt to life in China and undertake research. She mentioned that, aside from their studies, visiting tourist cities in China and experiencing its rich culture would leave lasting memories. She welcomed future Oxford students to China and expressed her hope that the HUST-Oxford Summer Camp would continue to prosper. Finally, Liu Yang, Chen Rong, and Yang Qing presented certificates of completion to the participants.
The six-week summer camp provided participants with an opportunity to experience traditional Chinese culture, including Peking Opera, seal carving, and calligraphy. They also visited the Hubei Provincial Museum, Hubei Science and Technology Museum, and State Grid NARI Group, gaining a comprehensive understanding of China's technological advancements and the unique charm of Chinese culture. Over the years, ICARE has utilized its Sino-foreign cooperative education platform to offer Oxford summer camp participants a venue for enhancing cultural exchanges between China and other countries, thereby deepening Sino-British friendship through academic exchanges and immersive cultural courses. In the future, ICARE plans to continue innovating in form, enriching content, and sharing the stories of ICARE and HUST from multiple perspectives, inviting more friends from China and abroad to visit and learn about HUST.
