This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. To strengthen exchanges and cooperation with French partner universities and further expand the two-way mobility of teachers and students, Luo Xiaobing, the Chinese Dean of ICARE, led a delegation to visit Mines Paris-PSL in early July. During the visit, they worked closely with their French counterparts to explore new development paths and discuss future cooperation. Sun Lu, the Deputy Secretary of the School of Energy and Power Engineering, led another delegation to visit the University of Twente in the Netherlands and the National Technical University of Athens in Greece, accompanied by Zhao Yiting, postgraduate group leader of ICARE, and Xie Chunhua, secretary to the Chinese Dean.
In France, the delegation met with Romain Soubeyran, President of École Centrale Paris-Supélec and former President of Mines Paris-PSL; Cédric Denis-Remis, Vice President of Paris Sciences & Lettres University (PSL); Didier Mayer and Alain Thorel, successive project coordinators of ICARE; and Michel Farine, European Dean of ICARE. Both sides exchanged views on the academic achievements and current status of the Institute, brainstorming about its future development. The delegation also met with Michel Schmitt, Acting President of Mines Paris-PSL. The discussions focused on short- and long-term strategic cooperation between ICARE and Mines Paris-PSL, covering topics such as the continuation of the double master's degree program and the expansion of faculty-student exchange programs. After the meeting, the delegation met with four ICARE students from the Class of 2022 studying at PSL. Luo Xiaobing encouraged them to manage stress, balance their academic and personal lives, and successfully complete their studies before returning to China.
In the Netherlands, led by Sun Lu, the delegation met with Chen Hao, an assistant professor at the University of Twente and an alumnus of ICARE's Class of 2014. They explored the university's talent cultivation and internationalization efforts, as well as the impact of ICARE's distinctive educational model on Chen Hao's growth and career. At Chen Hao's invitation, the delegation also observed the graduation thesis defense of five undergraduates he supervised. The delegation then held talks with Eduardo Lalla-Ruiz, Educational Director of the University of Twente’s bachelor and master programmes in e Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM), and Nick van der Veen, Head of Educational Coordination. Both sides introduced the educational frameworks and strengths of their respective institutions, engaging in detailed discussions on topics such as summer schools and bidirectional faculty-student exchanges. They reached a preliminary consensus, expressing a desire to begin a new chapter of cooperation and development between the two schools, centered on mutual visits and exchanges.
