On August 20, 2024, the results of the final round of the 16th "Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering Cup" National University Students Electrical Math Modeling Competition, organized by the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, were announced. The competition attracted 6,872 entries from 595 universities across China, involving more than 15,000 students. After a thorough evaluation process, 325 first-prize, 1,032 second-prize, and 1,717 third-prize teams were selected.
Among the winners, ICARE student Zhu Cheng, under the guidance of Professor Liu Zicheng from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, earned a second prize for their project titled "Coordinated and Optimized Configuration of Wind, Solar, and Storage in Park Microgrids."
The team utilized the Linprog linear programming solver to perform optimization calculations and further applied the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to determine the optimal configurations of wind, solar, and storage systems under different operating conditions while minimizing the total costs. Their precise and rigorous approach met all the competition’s criteria, leading to this well-deserved recognition in such a prestigious event.
