On October 28, Clive Roberts, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science at Durham University in the UK, along with Ms. Li Jian, Direct of China Office, visited ICARE. The delegation was welcomed by ICARE Vice Dean Dr. Zou Mingqing, Research Center Director Prof. Hu Song, and Education Center Director Ms. Liu Yang. The meeting was chaired by Han Jing, Deputy Director of the HUST International Affairs Office (OIA).
Dr. Zou Mingqing welcomed Clive Roberts on behalf of ICARE, emphasizing the significant potential for collaboration between the two institutions in the field of clean energy. He expressed optimism that both sides could leverage their unique strengths to explore joint initiatives. Ms. Xie Chunhua then provided an overview of ICARE’s development, its unique approach to talent cultivation, educational accomplishments, and future objectives.
Clive Roberts shared insights into Durham University’s key research areas, extensive collaboration networks, and institutional developments, highlighting the strengths of the Faculty of Science and Engineering in teaching and research. He expressed a keen interest in enhancing communication between Durham and ICARE and exploring collaborative opportunities in scientific research and talent development.
During the meeting, participants discussed various cooperation models, with both sides expressing a desire to strengthen partnerships in clean and renewable energy. Ideas for academic exchanges, faculty and student visits, and joint research were also explored. Additional attendees included Wan Tian, Manager of European & African Partnership, OIA at HUST, and Wang Shun, Vice Dean (International) of the School of Physics, who introduced their respective areas within the university.
