In May 2026, the Fluidized Bed & Biomass Research Group led by ICARE supervisor Professor Shao Jing’ai from the School of Energy and Power Engineering published a cover paper titled Synthesis of biomass-based MIL-101(Cr)@hydrochar for efficient conversion of xylose to furfural: Effects of physicochemical properties and biomass types in ChemSusChem, a top international journal in chemical engineering.

Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is the primary affiliation of this work. Postdoctoral researcher Zhang Junjie serves as the first author, while Professor Shao Jing’ai and Professor Lin Zhong (Guangdong Ocean University) act as co-corresponding authors.

Rooted in major national strategic demands and oriented toward global research frontiers, the Fluidized Bed & Biomass Research Group has outstanding strengths in scientific and technological innovation. Its core research directions cover the efficient conversion and high-value utilization of carbon-containing fuels, thermochemical conversion mechanisms including combustion, pyrolysis and gasification, novel negative-carbon biomass utilization technologies, carbon dioxide capture and utilization, solar thermal utilization, collaborative control of multi-pollutants, intelligent targeted design of new materials, advanced energy storage technologies, and assessment of energy-economic-ecological systems. The team has produced abundant research achievements over the years.
