On the morning of July 14, the China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy (ICARE) of Huazhong University of Science and Technology held a launch ceremony for the internship-practice program, together with a university-enterprise cooperation exchange meeting with Wuhan Energy Efficiency Evaluation Co., Ltd. of the State Grid Electric Power Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as “Wuhan Energy Efficiency Company”). Wu Xiaozhi, General Manager, and Xu Zhaoyang, Deputy General Manager of Wuhan Energy Efficiency Company; Dr. Zou Mingqing, Vice Dean of ICARE; heads of relevant departments from both sides; alumni working at the enterprise; and student intern representatives attended the meeting. The event was presided over by Teng Shanshan, Director of the General Office of Wuhan Energy Efficiency Company.
In-depth discussions were held during the meeting on topics including internships and practical training, research project cooperation, the integration of artificial intelligence with “Dual Carbon” technologies, the consolidation of international science and education resources, and graduate employment. The two parties further clarified their cooperation objectives: deepening the integration of industry and education and strengthening collaborative innovation among industry, universities and research institutes.
Wu Xiaozhi extended a warm welcome to the faculty and students and highlighted the strong long-term foundation for cooperation between the two sides in student internships and practical training. He noted that, against the backdrop of advancing the “Dual Carbon” goals and the accelerated digital transformation of the energy sector, enterprises need to draw on the scientific and educational strengths of universities to inject new momentum into technological innovation and business development. Wu proposed that both sides expand the scope of collaboration and carry out joint research in fields such as AI-empowered carbon accounting and energy-efficiency evaluation for new-energy technologies.
On behalf of ICARE, Dr. Zou Mingqing expressed gratitude to Wuhan Energy Efficiency Company for its long-standing support for ICARE’s talent cultivation and student practical training initiatives. He stated that ICARE would further leverage its strengths in China-EU joint education and interdisciplinary resources. Addressing practical needs such as the international carbon border adjustment mechanism, overseas new-energy markets and the global development of energy enterprises, ICARE will organize Chinese and international experts to conduct joint research with the enterprise. He proposed that the two sides establish regular cooperation mechanisms, including inviting industry experts to the university, arranging student internships and practical programmes, and launching joint research projects, thereby enabling deeper enterprise engagement throughout the talent-training process.
Subsequently, Liu Chang, representative of the student interns, delivered a speech expressing his gratitude to both the institute and the enterprise for providing this valuable platform for learning and practical experience. He remarked that all interns would quickly make the transition from university learners to workplace practitioners, strictly comply with the company’s rules, regulations and confidentiality requirements, learn from enterprise supervisors, and diligently fulfil their assigned tasks.
At the closing session of the meeting, an appointment ceremony for industrial mentors was held. Wu Xiaozhi, General Manager of the company, was appointed as an industrial mentor of ICARE. All participants took a group photo to mark the occasion.
This meeting further consolidated the foundation for bilateral cooperation. Moving forward, with student internships and practical programmes serving as a link, both sides will continue to deepen collaboration in joint talent cultivation and research project development, providing talent and innovation-driven momentum for the green, low-carbon transition and the high-quality development of the energy industry.
