Recently, Professor Fabrizio Dughiero, Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Padova (Italy), visited ICARE. He took part in a range of exchange activities, including teaching, an academic lecture, project discussions and cooperation negotiations, aimed at deepening bilateral exchange and collaboration.
During his visit, Professor Dughiero delivered lectures on Introduction to New Energy for ICARE students. Drawing on his research and practical experience in translating research outcomes into applications, he provided a systematic overview of the fundamentals of electric energy, power systems and power electronics. Focusing on photovoltaic (PV) systems, the challenges associated with grid integration of intermittent energy sources, and the role of electrification in industry and transportation, he adopted an application-oriented teaching approach. The lectures incorporated real-world examples and discussions on energy transition technologies, helping students connect core electrical engineering knowledge with applications in modern energy systems.
Beyond the lectures, Professor Dughiero held discussions on the electromagnetic food preservation project with Chinese professors and technical experts from the Refrigerator Department, Large Appliance Division, Xiaomi Corporation. The participants exchanged views on the application prospects, technical challenges and potential directions for cooperation in electromagnetic technology for food preservation, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration.
On September 4, Professor Dughiero delivered an academic lecture entitled Electromagnetics at Work: Simulation, Optimization and Electrothermal Processing at the University of Padova - Building Bridges with HUST and ICARE Institute for Chinese Dean Prof. Luo Xiaobing, Professor Hu Run’s research group and students. He presented the research progress of the University of Padova in electromagnetic simulation, optimization and electro-thermal processing, and shared achievements and a vision for cooperation with our institute. He expressed his expectation that faculty and students from both sides would strengthen mutual visits and research cooperation in interdisciplinary energy fields.
After the lecture, Professor Dughiero held a discussion with Chinese Dean Prof. Luo Xiaobing and Ms. Liu Yang, Director of the Academic Affairs Office of our institute, on advancing the double master’s programme. Both sides exchanged views on approval procedures, joint curriculum, as well as admission and graduation requirements; clarified the work roadmap and timeline for the next phase; and agreed to jointly facilitate the smooth progress of the double master’s programme.
This visit further consolidated the consensus on cooperation and deepened exchanges between the two parties in talent cultivation, scientific research, and industry-university-research collaboration. Both sides look forward to using this visit as an opportunity to further expand the depth and scope of cooperation, deliver more tangible collaborative projects, and jointly support the cultivation of innovative talent and academic advancement in the energy sector.
