On the afternoon of September 12, 2023, Jean-Louis Lapointe, Engineering leader of Nuclear Business for GE Steam Power and Chairman of the Thermal Systems Belfort Works Council hold a scientific lecture entitled "GE's Global low-carbon energy Development Strategy" in the Clean Energy Building S311. The lecture attracted more than 100 students and teachers.

Jean-Louis Lapointe joined ALSHTOM as an electro-mechanical engineer in 1989 after graduating from the Ecole Nationale Superieure dElectrotechnique et de Mecanique (ENSEM) in Nancy in France, and became the leader of several projects and teams. He has also served as general manager in the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland and Taiwan (China).

In his lecture, Jean-Louis Lapointe focused on five areas: the transition to net zero energy, the role of nuclear energy in countries' energy mix, GE/SP nuclear technology, GE/SP nuclear engineering, cooperation between companies and universities and recruitment programs. He explained the urgency of global climate change and the need for a net-zero energy transition, using data and examples to explain how nuclear energy is becoming an important part of the energy mix in many countries. He also talked about the latest progress and achievements of GE VERNOVA in nuclear technology and engineering, and pointed out GE's important role in nuclear power engineering, including providing advanced technologies and solutions.

In the Q&A session, students exchanged ideas with Jean-Louis Lapointe on nuclear safety, waste disposal and future development. This lecture not only provided a valuable opportunity for teachers and students to understand nuclear energy and sustainable development, but also strengthened the contact between the ICARE and well-known foreign enterprises.
